TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A number of streets in Jakarta on Monday was reportedly starting to be slightly crowded again with people commuting to work and other activities amid the government’s coronavirus (COVID-19) work from home policy.

This observation is confirmed by the Metro Jaya Police traffic corps director, Grand Commissioner Sambodo Purnomo Yugo on Tuesday. “The data shows a 10 percent increase compared to Monday last week.”

According to him, the slight increase in vehicular traffic entering Jakarta can be observed in four toll road gates from 06:00 to 14:00 or during rush hours. The vehicles are reportedly coming from the Capital City’s satellite cities such as Bogor, Bekasi, and Tangerang.

The data varied with four toll road gates seeing slight increases while a drop was seen at the Cengkareng Toll Road, “Which saw a 19 percent drop,” said Sambodo.

The Jakarta administration has extended the coronavirus emergency status to April 19, which extends workers’ remote working and remote schooling policies across the city.

“The closure of tourist sites are also extended. Everything adheres to the coronavirus emergency status up to April 19,” said Governor of Jakarta Anies Baswedan previously.
