TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo announced Tuesday that state-electricity company PLN will not charge households or subscribers of its 450 volt-ampere (VA) for the next three months amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“The 450 VA electricity subscribers that account for 24 million households will not be charged of any bills for the next three months; April, May, and June of 2020,” the president announced today, March 31.

The president has also ordered a 50 percent electricity bill discount for 7 million 900 VA households for the same period.

According to Jokowi, the government is currently focused on providing assistance for Indonesia’s lower classes amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

Moreover, small households (R-1) subscribed to 1,300 VA to 2,200 VA power; mid-size households subscribed to 3,500-5,500 VA, and large households subscribed to 6,600 VA and above are subject to PLN’s new 2020 second-quarter electricity bills that charge Rp1,467.28 per kWh.
