TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chairperson of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Rosan Perkasa Roeslani urged corporations to donate to the country’s coronavirus (COVID-19) mitigation efforts.

Kadin together with the Buddha Tzu Chi Indonesia Foundation had donated essential health equipment to the government.

”We hope that donations from corporations will reach Rp500 billion, but it would be better if it can exceed that number,” said Rosan in a written statement on Tuesday.

Kadin revealed that there are a number of corporations in Indonesia declaring a commitment to donate to the country such as Ciputra Group, First Resources Ltd., Mulia, and Wilmar International. They say that future developments regarding the donations will be reported constantly to President Jokowi.

Meanwhile, Sinarmas managing director G. Sulistiyanto, who helped coordinate this initiative said the government had facilitated them through cutting back on import permits for health equipment, which accelerated the process of bringing in the necessary commodities to Indonesia.

”The rapid spread of the coronavirus that does not pick its victims serves as a reminder for us the importance of fostering solidarity in mitigating the pandemic. We see that the SOEs Ministry, overseeing many public services entities must be supported,” said G. Sulistiyanto.

Another initiative to help the government amid the coronavirus crisis prior to Kadin’s was the ‘Pengusaha Peduli NKRI’ which commits to donating to the government in the form of health-related items. The initiative consists of varying corporations such as Astra International, Panin Group, PT Fajar Surya Wisesa Tbk, Wings Corporation, Rajawali Corporation, Garudafood, Nutrifood Indonesia, FKS Group, PT Pan Brothers Tbk, PT Sritex Tbk, and PT Sumber Alfaria Trijaya Tbk
