TEMPO.CO, Bandung - Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) updated the earthquake's magnitude that jolted South Kuta, Bali on Thursday early morning, March 19 to 6.3 from previously 6.6.

"And 12 aftershocks occurred as of 06:00 a.m. local times," said Daryono, Head of BMKG Earthquake and Tsunami Mitigation, on Thursday.

The quake's epicenter was located at 11.4 degrees south latitude and 115.04 degrees east longitude, 305 kilometers south of Denpasar or 273 kilometers southwest of Kuta. It was classified as a shallow quake with a depth of 10 kilometers and had no tsunami potential.

"This quake was triggered by fault activity in the Java Trench zone," said Daryono in a written statement.

BMKG analysis results revealed that the quake occurred on a normal fault mechanism. The rock deformation took place in the Indo-Australian Plate.

The tremor was felt almost across Bali and Lombok with the largest intensity scale reaching IV MMI. The tremor also reached West Sumbawa and the southern part of East Java up to III MMI level.
