Covid-19: Anies Baswedan Officially Announces School Closures

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan announced school closures for two weeks, starting on Monday, March 16, as an attempt to prevent the spread of COVID-19. He said that this was done to anticipate coronavirus transmission among children.
"Jakarta Administration has decided to close all schools in the capital, and the learning activities will be conducted through distance education method," Anies said in his office, Central Jakarta, Saturday, March 14.
He said that distance learning can be executed digitally, mentioning that the teaching materials would be ready before Monday.
The Jakarta administration also halted the National Examination that is supposed to be started on Monday next week. These policies will be valid until further development.
"The school closure will be implemented for two weeks and we’ll review the development on the second weekend," Anies explained.
As of March 12, Indonesia recorded 69 people tested positive for Covid-19 and 4 casualties. In the capital, Jakarta, as many as 586 people are under observation (ODP) and 261 patients are under supervision (PDP).
