Indonesia to Have Covid-19 Quarantine Facility Ready by March-end

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Public Works and Public Housing Ministry said the building facility that will serve as observation, shelter and quarantine center for infectious diseases, including the new coronavirus or Covid-19, will be completed at the end of March. The building facility is located in Galang Island, Riau Islands Regency.
The Ministry's director-general of construction, Trisasongko Widianto, said on Tuesday that the facility will be built on a site used as a camp for Vietnamese refugees from 1979 to 1996. Galang Island itself is a historical tourism area.
In a written statement, Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said that by the end of March the building complex will not only have the observation, shelter and quarantine facilities ready, but also supporting facilities such as doctors and nurses' houses, public kitchens, warehouses, laundry, and others.
"We have begun the land clearing stage, and we will have electricity from PLN soon," Basuki said.
The observation wards, once completed, will have a total of 230 beds; each room with the capacity to treat eight to 10 patients. The isolation room will have 30 ICU beds and 20 non-ICU beds, equipped with medical devices up to the latest standards.
