TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Bekasi City Government restricted shopping mall managements, modern shops, and all traders in the area to hoard staple foods and face masks in relation to the recent Coronavirus outbreak.

The Coronavirus' infiltration to Indonesia was announced by President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo earlier this week. The virus infected two residents of Depok, West Java, which is now receiving treatment in Jakarta.

Head of Public Relations of the Bekasi City Regional Secretariat Sajekti Rubiyah, said that the restriction was stated in Circular Letter No. 510/1727/Diadagperin, which was issued on Wednesday, March 4, 2020.

"So that scarcity does not occur in the community," Sajekti said on Thursday, March 5, 2020.

Following the issuance of the Circular, Sajekti said that the relevant agencies and government authorities will conduct surveillance to shops selling masks and staple foods. Sajekti explained that violation against the restriction is subject to imprisonment.

"For this reason, we hope employers can follow the circular and the policy," he said.

The Circular also called on Bekasi residents to increase awareness and start practicing clean and healthy living.
