TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Adi Sumarmo Airport Manager extended the closure of airport operations caused by volcanic ash from Mount Merapi. They initially planned to close the airport from 09:10 until 11:30 local time. However, the airport has just finally opened at 15:39.

"We open the airport because it is clean," said a spokesman for airport operator Angkasa Pura I at Adi Sumarmo Solo Airport, Danar Dewi. The rain that fell in the airport area helped the cleaning process.

The closing of the airport caused several airlines to cancel flights. "Both from Solo and to Solo," Danar said. The most impact felt by Lion Air that canceled three flights following this situation.

Theflights are JT-537 from Solo to Cengkareng, JT-118 (ferryflight) from Solo to JeddahandWingsAir's IW-1904 flightfrom Bandung to Solo.

"JT-118 aircraft should leave for Jeddah empty," she said, as the airplane will be used to pick up Umrah pilgrims who will return to Indonesia.

Besides, Garuda Indonesia's GA222 flight from Cengkareng to Solo and AirAsia QZ8454 from Denpasar opted to cancel their flights.
