DPR Paces-up Discussion on Minerba Law Problem Inventory List

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The House of Representatives (DPR) is stepping up its pace in discussing the problem inventory list of the Mining and Coal (Minerba) Law revision. In less than a week, the DPR's working committee's work is almost completed.
The first meeting was held on February 17. Chairman of the Minerba Bill Working Committee Bambang Wuryanto said that discussions are held every night since. As of February 25, more than 700 items in the inventory list have been discussed.
Once all items are agreed and approved, they will be synchronized before being discussed further in a legislative hearing session. Bambang Wuryanto said the list should be ready by late March at the soonest.
The DPR's Commission VII chairman, Sugeng Suparwoto, is targeting the bill to be passed by no later than August 2020. "Two hearing sessions should be enough," he said.
He said that the Minerba Bill is something highly anticipated by business actors, as they need certainties. This particularly applies to companies with mining business work contracts or PKP2B. By 2025, seven first-generation PKP2B holders will have their contracts expire. One company has a contract that will end November this year.
