TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Deputy Chairman, Sarman Simanjorang, has urged Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan to provide an early warning system for Jakarta flood. With this early warning, businesspeople can anticipate many things, especially in logistics distribution.

Sarman hopes that the Jakarta government can coordinate with the BMKG to predict months of high rainfall intensity, as well as expanding the flood warning so that business people can anticipate especially areas that are often affected by flooding.

"Businesses people can anticipate from the side of the stock of goods because if they do not anticipate it, this flood will disrupt the logistics and the price of goods will also be disrupted," Sarman said when met in Jakarta, Wednesday, February 26, 2020.

Besides the government, businesses people that manage the trade area, hotels, restaurants and apartments are expected to be active and responsible in reducing plastic waste that can become a drainage stopper.

Sarman mentioned the floods that hit Jakarta on Tuesday 25 February had an impact not only on workers' activities but also on trade activities. The number of visitors in the trade center has decreased around 30-40 percent due to flooding in Jakarta at several vital points.

"Around 50 percent stalls in Mangga Dua are closed. Then, Kelapa Gading was a significant loss, the trade center declined because, during the flood, people were reluctant to leave the house, "Sarman said.

Former Deputy Governor of Jakarta Sandiaga Uno said that the Jakarta flood that occurred last Tuesday was quite disturbing for micro, small, and medium enterprises (UMKM) even though he admitted that he still had to do a detailed count. "We calculate the impact on UMKM because more than 90 per-cent will be affected in UMKM. This impact will depend on how long the extreme weather situation lasts," Sandiaga Uno said at the BPPT Building in Jakarta, Tuesday.
