Jakarta Flood Recedes; PLN Turns On 1,096 Substations

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State electricity company PLN has returned the operation of 1,096 substations to normal today, Feb. 26, following the power outages due to Jakarta flooding yesterday.

Based on the data from the company on Wednesday, February 26, there were 1,157 power stations affected by the flood and now the operation of 1,096 substations have returned to normal in PLN Main Distribution Unit (UID) working area but 61 substations are still being shut down.

"The temporary shut down are done for the sake of people's safety," said the Communications Manager of PLN UID Jabodetabek, Dita Artsana, this morning, Feb. 26.

The rain that flushed Jakarta since Monday night have flooded several areas in the city. To maintain safety, the electricity company begins to conduct power outage in the locations affected by flood.

PLN instructed everyone affected by the floods to turn off their miniature circuit breakers (MCB) and plug off all electric devices from power sockets. He also advised placing devices on safe, high surfaces and make sure they are completely dry before turning them on when the power is back up.

The residents may also contact the 123 Information Center or the nearest PLN office to conduct power outages in areas affected by flooding in Jakarta.
