TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An illegal cosmetics factory in Jatijajar, Depok was raided by the Jakarta Police's Narcotics Directorate. The business has been banking up on some Rp200million of income per month from distributing beauty products daily.

"They are selling and making facial cleanser and toner, morning and night creams, and serums," Sr. Comr. Yusri Yunus, the PR chief of Polda Metro Jaya, said on February 18.

During the bust, officers apprehended three people who had been named as suspects. The first suspect is a chemistry graduate from a state university in Jakarta, who had worked in a cosmetics company in Jakarta.

The second suspect is a pharmacy graduate whose job was to make beauty products. The third suspect acted as the courier delivering the goods to customers.

The three suspects were colleagues working at the same cosmetics company. They then decided to establish their own business of making and selling beauty products illegally.

Yusri said that the random measurement used in making the products and the lack of license from the BPOM make these products dangerous. So far, there has been no report on the negative effects of using illegal products.

The three suspects are now detained at the Metro Jaya Regional Police station for further investigation. They are facing up to 10 years behind bars and a fine of Rp1 billion.
