TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry announced that three Indonesian crew members working on the Diamond Princess cruise ship currently residing in Japan are confirmed positive for coronavirus infection or COVID-19.

“I received information that three out of the 78 Indonesian crews have been confirmed positive for coronavirus,” said Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi after welcoming the Wuhan evacuation crews on Tuesday, February 18.

The report states that the three crew members are included in the 446 coronavirus patients aboard the cruise liner.

Minister Retno said two of the infected are currently treated at a hospital in Chiba while another one is being taken for further medical treatment.

“I will request for the confirmation from the Japanese government about their next step after February 19,” said the Foreign Affairs Minister. “We will continue to coordinate [with local authorities].”

As previously reported, the Diamond Princess cruise ship has been quarantined at a port in Yokohama since February 4 after one of its passengers was found to carry the novel coronavirus.

The Japanese government is eyeing to conduct another thorough health check on the crew members and passengers for COVID-19 infection on February 19.
