Especially in Indonesia, one of the biggest problems related to cyberspace is hoaxes. According to the data given by the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemkominfo) in 2019, there are at least 800 thousand hoaxes. Of course, this is very troubling.

To overcome those hoaxes, the Head of Public Policy of Google Indonesia, Putri Alam, shares some tips to avoid hoaxes. First, she urged everyone to always checks the credibility of the site. For example, check whether the site stands alone or did it came from a blog site.

"Also pay attention to the site's URL, check the relativities of the URL with the name and company information sought. For example, Tempo.co should be Tempo.com," she said when met after the Internet Tangkas event in Jakarta on February 10, 2020.

Putri also reminded the importance of double-checking every information obtained. For example, there is a new hoax about the Coronavirus being spread via cellphones.

"Most of this is obtained through forwarding messages. We should check it again on various websites, whether it is true or not. Do not immediately send it to someone else," she said.

Lastly, if there are people who uploaded hoax news, Putri urges them to be reminded. If it is an unknown person and the uploaded post is very disturbing, report it immediately.

"By reporting, for example; there are hoaxes on Instagram and we reported the account to the app's administrator, we have already help other people not to be consumed by that same lies," she said.
