TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Cathedral church’s management welcomes news about the plan to establish a tunnel connecting the catholic church to its neighboring Istiqlal mosque. Previous news saw President Jokowi dub the tunnel as the silaturahmi tunnel.
“We are entirely behind the plan and we reaffirm the spirit of Bung Karno’s vision in placing the national mosque alongside the Cathedral church,” said the priest and chief administrator of Cathedral church to Antara, Albertus Hani on Monday, February 10.
He believes that the existence of the ‘silaturahmi tunnel’ will improve the relations between the pair of Jakarta’s house of worship that are also considered as a national cultural heritage. Silaturahmi in its essence means brotherhood.
“We would like to convey our gratitude for the plans mentioned by [President Jokowi] on Friday, February 7, which is based on the discussion between the two parties,” he said.
