Jakarta Aims to Finalize MRT Phase 2A Development in 2027

19 October 2023 06:59 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Acting Governor of Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono inspected the development of MRT Jakarta Phase 2A from HI Roundabout to Kota Station on Wednesday afternoon. The inspection began with the 6-meter diameter tunnel under the National Monument.

"Alhamdulillah (Praise be to God), MRT is beneficial for the public and has been progressing nicely," Heru Budi said while inspecting the progress of MRT development from Monas Station to Thamrin Station on Wednesday, October 18, 2023.

Accompanied by the President Director of PT MRT Jakarta Tuhiyat, Heru Budi walked along the tunnel with the starting point of the National Monument's entry.

The tunnel for MRT Phase 2A will stretch along 5.8 kilometers. The route will consist of seven underground MRT stations, namely Thamrin, Monas, Harmoni, Sawah Besar, Mangga Besar, Glodok, and Kota. It will be divided into two segments, from HI Roundabout to Harmoni, and Harmoni to Kota.

"The first segment is targeted to be finalized in 2027," Heru said at the entryway of Thamrin Station.

According to Tempo's observation at Thamrin Station, workers were digging and casting what would be the connectors from Thamrin Station to Harmoni Station.

Citing the official website of MRT Jakarta, tunnel boring machine 1 (TBM-1) is still being used to develop a southbound tunnel from the north side of Monas Station to Harmoni Station. The machine has successfully built 421.5 meters (281 rings). Meanwhile, the TBM-2 has finalized the tunnel on the northbound side and is currently being dismantled.
