TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Mass Rapid Transit, or MRT Jakarta is exploring three areas to develop the park and ride spaces around Lebak Bulus Station. The area will be developed with a parking and business area concept.

The Head of the Transit Oriented Development Division at MRT Jakarta Gunawan mentioned that the park and ride concept will support retail activities; from MSMEs to sports centers.

"We have conducted three intense communications with the land owners related to the development," Gunawan said during a discussion on Wednesday.

Gunawan stated that one of the areas set to contain the park and ride space has 700 to 1,000 motorcycle capacity and 200 car lots with more than one hectare of land. Meanwhile, the financing of this space is estimated to reach Rp10-15 billion. The development will start at the beginning of next year at the latest.

"With that investment, if the land owners have agreed, the financing could be withdrawn from MRT Jakarta," he said.

The development of park and ride spaces will be focused on the surrounding area of Lebak Bulus, Fatmawati, to T.B. Simatupang. "The traffic in those areas is no joke. We want to create a space supported by other facilities, such as sports," he added. "Because, searching for a football, tennis, or basketball arena is hard. So we want to develop a park and ride space completed with [sports] facilities."

The development of TOD Lebak Bulus will provide a mixed-function area with a 200,000-meter square of land, located 700 meters from Lebak Bulus Station. The area will be completed with 1.5 hectares of land for a park and an open space.

Additionally, to boost social activities, TOD provides 78,404-meter square of land for a shady public space to encourage walking intensity and reduce the effects of urban heat islands.

The area will also create a special space for MSMEs in a 5,000-meter square to promote the informal business sector and increase economic activities.

Pedestrian routes will be improved which are hoped to provide secure, comfortable, and accessible pedestrian routes, stretching across 8.2 kilometers. This development will encourage a healthy lifestyle by walking and cycling.
