Jakarta BPBD Notices Floods in 17 Areas following Heavy Rainfall

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Heavy rainfall pouring Jakarta since today early morning, January 24, has inundated at least 17 areas of the capital city up to the height of 30 centimeters, the city’s disaster mitigation agency (BPBD) reported.

As of 10 a.m., the agency recorded that North Jakarta, Central Jakarta, and West Jakarta dealt with floods. “As many as 17 areas are inundated,” said the BPBD head Subejo via a phone call on Friday, January 24.

Subejo outlined areas flooded in North Jakarta are residential areas on Jalan Peralihan Sungai Bengong, Jalan Komplek Dewa Kembar, Kampung Sawah, Jalan Atrero Marunda, Jalan Madya Samper of Cilincing, Jalan Mahoni of Koja sub-district, Jalan Parang Tritis of pademangan, Jalan Bulak Cabek Jalan Cilincing Bakti, and Jalan Cilincing Lama.

Additionally, Jalan Letjend Suprapto of Cempaka Putih, Underpass Gandhi Kemayoran in Central Jakarta and Cengkareng neighboring unit (RW) 5 and 12 in West Jakarta are also inundated by floodwater. The water height, Subejo went on, reached 10-30 centimeters.

Earlier, Metro Police Traffic Management Center (TMC) informed several roads affected by the heavy rainfall are Jalan Agung Karya 6, Sunter of North Jakarta; Bundaran La Piazza and Jalan Bulevard Barat Kelapa Gading of North Jakarta; Jalan Pluit Raya in Pluit Sakti and Jalan Gaya Motor Raya, North Jakarta; Tanjung Priok bus terminal in North Jakarta; and Jalan Gunung Sahari in Jakarta Pusat.

Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasted that rainfall possibly hit whole areas of Jakarta today, January 24. Light rains will shower West Jakarta, South Jakarta, and East Jakarta in the afternoon, while at night, the whole city will experience heavy rains.
