TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) claims they were genuinely not aware of the whereabouts of Harun Masiku, the party member who is incriminated in the bribery case on the General Elections Commission (KPU) Wahyu Setiawan.
The party’s claim was announced by the PDIP legal team member, I Wayan Sudirta after the immigration office informed that Harun has returned to Indonesia since January 7, contradicting their initial statement when Harun first went on the run.
Representing PDIP, Wayan urges Harun Masiku to give himself up to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and quit evading justice.
“Face the legal process, because it is impossible to continue [hiding],” said Wayan at the Senayan Parliamentary Complex on Thursday, January 23. “Face it. It will be a chance to express your defense properly.”
Harun Masiku was officially named a suspect in the bribery case since January 9. It needed 15 days for the directorate-general of immigrations to admit that Harun had already been in Indonesia since January 7, which contradicts their own statement asserting that Harun had traveled to Singapore on January 6 and has yet returned.
The Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly denies that he intentionally misinformed the public when he publicly said that Harun Masiku was overseas at the time KPK arrested Wahyu Setiawan in a sting operation (OTT) on January 8.
“I am a religious person. I swear to god that it was an error,” said Yasonna Laoly on Wednesday.
