TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The head of registration and certification unit of the Halal Certification Agency (BPJPH), Mastuki, said the omnibus law draft on the employment would affect several articles on Law No. 33/2014 on halal product assurance.

However, he asserted that the bill would not remove the obligation of halal product certification.

According to Mastuki, several articles would be reviewed and amended. “But Article 4 regarding the obligation of the certification is not discussed,” he said in a statement as quoted from the Religious Affairs Ministry website on Wednesday, January 22.

The BPJPH, he added, joined the discussion on the bill along with the Coordinating Ministry for Economy, Finance Ministry, and several related institutions that have been held until mid-January.

Mastuki explained that the assurance of halal products in the omnibus law would emphasize the simplification of the certification process either in BPJPH, Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), and the Halal Products Guarantor Institution (LPH).

In addition, the omnibus law will stipulate the removal of the certification fee for micro and small enterprises (MSEs), the optimization of the roles and functions of LPH, halal auditors, and halal supervisors, as well as the provision of sanctions, "In a bid to encourage businesses to propose halal certification," said Mastuki.
