Anies Baswedan: Pumps Were Damaged During New Year Flood

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said that a number of stationary pumps were damaged and could not be used during the flooding on new year's day. The Jakarta Water Resources Department found 76 stationary pumps in 40 pump houses in the Capital City were damaged.
"I will show you the data later. We will conduct an audit (for pump operation)," Anies said at the Jakarta City Hall, Thursday, January 9.
Of the 76 pumps declared to be damaged, 49 were damaged due to flooding at the start of the new year, Wednesday, January 1. The city of Jakarta has a total of 478 units of stationary pumps in 176 pump houses locations.
The governor said a number of pumps were damaged due to flooding. According to Anies, pumps in several locations was submerged because they are located below the rivers' water level.
He also said that several pump houses were unable to perform optimally due to the overflowing river water. "In areas where [water] was supposed to be vacuumed, the water got pumped there instead".
Anies Baswedan said he would immediately repair the damaged pumps as well as recover the areas of pump houses that were inundated during the new year's day flood.
