TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has favored Bekasi City to dispose of their post-flooding waste in Bantargebang Integrated Landfill (TPST). “The request from Mr. Mayor (of Bekasi) will be fulfilled by us,” said Anies in the Jakarta City Hall, on Wednesday, January 8, 2020.

Previously, Mayor of Bekasi Rahmat Effendi has said that he has been facing more severe problems after the recent flood swamped the city. A serious matter that needs to be solved after the flooding would be piles of waste that have just started to inflict unpleasant odors.

“I will contact Governor Anies Baswedan to provide space in Bantargebang (TPST) so that the waste resulting from the floods could be disposed there,” said Rahmat.

The Jakarta Governor further stated Bekasi can dispose of their waste in Jakarta’s landfill, since Bekasi, according to him, is part of Indonesia. “This isn’t the Republic of Jakarta or the Republic of Bekasi,” said Anies.

“This is our responsibility. So we must not be compartmentalized in our thinking," he added.

Anies believes that the floods that have happened in Lebak, Banten, Bekasi, West Java, and other regions, is a problem to be shouldered together. “The problem faced by Bekasi is our problem too; likewise in Jakarta,” said the former Minister of Education and Culture.
