TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In the growing escalation between the United States and Iran, Coordinating Minister of Politics, Law, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD called for Indonesian citizens currently living in the two countries to stay safe and alert.

“I am aware that the Foreign Affairs Minister has called for Indonesians living there to remain cautious,” said Mahfud at his headquarters on Tuesday, January 7.

Mahfud said he is set to hold a meeting with the Foreign Affairs Minister, Retno Marsudi, upon issuing a formal notice from the government as he disclosed only knowing what the general public knows currently.

“I will refrain from talking about technical issues or evacuation processes or anything within that perimeter. It is being prepared,” said Mahfud.

The bilateral relations between the United States and Iran reached rock bottom after the death of General Soleimani due to an airstrike committed by the U.S. government under direct orders of President Donald Trump.
