TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bekasi Environment Agency has collected trash weighing over 2,000 tons since the clean-up activities on Thursday, January 2 after the massive floods. The agency secretary Kustantinah predicted that the cleaning would continue for the next five days.

Kustantinah said garbages still piled up in people’s homes and streets, such as domestic waste and household appliances. Besides, loading the trash required extra efforts as they mixed with mud.

“The spread of garbages is even, most of them are found at Jatiasih sub-district area,” Kustantinah said.

According to him, seven residential complexes in Jatiasih were inundated, including Vila Jatirasa, Pondok Gede Permai, and Kemang IFI Graha. “All cleaning personnel about 1,600 people are deployed, and we mobilize 307 cleaning vehicles.”

In addition, Kustantinah said that the long distance to reach Sumurbatu final landfill in Bantargebang also hampered the cleaning activity, not to mention the disposal queue.

"Perhaps, this will not end on January 10, while the emergency response status will only last until Jan. 7," he said.

Based on Tempo's observations on Sunday afternoon, trashes still piled up on the side of the road on Jalan Kartini, East Bekasi. Household appliances, such as sofas, mattresses, and sales products were seen damaged in the road.
