Flood Victims Increases to 53

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of Data, Information, and Communication of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Agus Wibowo, said that the number of people who died because of the recent flood and landslide in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi is increasing. As of Saturday, January 4, 2020, the number of dead victims have reached 53 people.

"The number of dead victims recorded as of January 4, 2020, at 10:00 AM is 53 people, and one person missing," Agus said in a written statement on Saturday, January 4, 2020.

Agus asserted that the additional number of victims was recored in Lebak and Bogor Regency. "In Bogor, five people died, but the identity are still unknown," Agus said.

Meanwhile, the number of people still displaced from their house raches 173,064 people, or around 39,627 households.

Chief of Operation Control Center of BNPB Bambang Surya Putra explained that the water level in a number of regions are beginning to decrease.

"But it is not much. In general, the water level in the rivers are lower. However, there are some parts of the rivers in Bekasi and Bogor in which the embankment were breached. It is being handled," Bambang said.
