Nadiem Makarim to Provide Allowance for Flood-Affected Teachers

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Education and Culture Nadiem Makarin will provide a special allowance for teachers who suffered the effects of the recent flood. Nadiem will also provide allowance for schools affected by the flood.

"The Ministry of Education and Culture is also currently making a data for the provisioning of special allowance for teachers affected by flood, which will be provided for three months," Nadiem said on Friday, January 3, 2020.

"Professional allowance for flood-affected teachers will also be provided," Nadiem said.

Nadiem added that the Ministry of Education and Culture has coordinated with the Regional Government and the National Disaster Mitigation Agency to make a record of schools that were affected by the flood.

In addition to Jakarta, a team from the Ministry of Education and Culture is currently monitoring and recording flood-affected schools in Tangerang, South Tangerang, Bekasi, Depok, Bogor, Bogor Regency, Bekasi Regency, Lebak, and West Bandung.

"Other than schools, the team also record students, teachers, and education officers who are affected by the flood," Nadiem Makarim said.

The National Secretariat of Disaster Free Education Unit (Seknas SPAB) of the Education and Culture Ministry recorded 290 flood-affected schools in Jakarta area. Some 201 of the schools were completely drowned by flood, while the remaining 89 schools were cut off by flood and cannot be accessed. Seknas SPAB also reported 8,420 students in Jakarta were affected by the flood.

In Lebak Regency, banten Province, 12 schools were reported to be damaged because of the flood. Twenty teachers and education officers were affected by the flash flood. "Team from the Directorate for Development of Junior High School and Education Quality Assurance Agency in Banten has conducted a field inspection to provide initial assistance," Nadiem said in a press release.

Nadiem added that the respective technical directorate is preparing aid in the form of emergency school tents, school equipment, educational play toys, laptops, and storybooks. In addition, psychosocial assistance will also be provided in cooperation with a number of agencies.
