Jakarta Flooding: Ahok Says Anies Baswedan Knows More

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, or also known as Ahok, refused to make any comments about the flood that hits several areas around Jakarta since Wednesday, January 1, 2020. Ahok said that the incumbent governor Anies Baswedan is the person who has the capacity to talk about the disaster.
"Ask Pak Anies. He and his people know more [about flood in the capital]," said the former Jakarta governor to Tempo via a short message on Friday, January 3, 2020.
Basuki, who now prefers to be called BTP, earlier sent messages to flood victims through his personal Twitter account. He expressed hope the unfortunate event will end soon.
"Hopefully, the flood will end and the condition will recover soon," Basuki tweeted.
Currently served as chief commissioner of state-owned oil and gas firm Pertamina, Basuki offered condolences to the victims of the deadly disaster.
BTP also appealed to Jakartans living alongside the city's river basins (DAS) to maintain vigilance over other possible heavy rainfalls that likely trigger floods.
At the end of April last year, Ahok had spoken up about one of the possible causes of Jakarta flooding that he thought it was due to water pumps that were not operated in time. He asserted that such devices should be activated before the flood levels rise.
