TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned airliner Garuda Indonesia pushed for the efficiency of its business operation by implementing a number of programs. This was done given the fact that the corporate could not intervene in several components of airline tickets, including avtur or jet fuel.

“[The price of avtur] depends on the seller,” said Garuda’s marketing director Pikri Ilham Kurniansyah in Jakarta, Thursday, December 26.

Pikri outlined several efforts to achieve business efficiency. The first the company would do was purchasing avtur in a region offering a cheaper price. “Each region offers different prices that we cannot set.”

The corporate would also try to have on-time departures because the longer the plane has to wait to fly, the more fuel will be wasted, he added.

Pikri went on to say that the national flag carrier aimed to fly at a higher altitude so the pressure from the wind is smaller, and the use of fuel would be more efficient.

In addition, his side removed several in-flight goods to reduce the flight’s burden. For example, printed magazines would be replaced with digital ones.

The last effort to be carried out to push for Garuda Indonesia to be efficient was by restructuring or rediscussing the leasing component in a bid to obtain a more affordable price.
