TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The transportation ministry announced that the peak holiday season for this year’s Christmas will be on December 19 and December 20, which will see a mass exodus of people traveling back to their hometowns, known locally as “mudik.”

“It will start tomorrow, just as school children enter their holidays,” said Transportation Ministry’s Ahmad Yani in a press conference in Jakarta today.

Meanwhile, new year’s mass-exodus is predicted to take place on January 1 and January 2, 2020. The ministry says that 60 percent of those traveling to their hometowns will come from Jakarta and Bandung.

Moreover, the government will also impose a temporary travel ban for large trucks during the Christmas peak holiday season on December 20, 21, and 25.
