TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) senior investigator Novel Baswedan in his attendance at the United Nations Convention Against Corruption talked about the acid attack he experienced which left his eyes permanently damaged.

The conference was held in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates on December 16th.

During the conference, a special session was held to highlight the protections for anti-graft organizations and its employees, which was when Novel recalled the string of terrors he received from hit-and-run up to attempts to criminalize him.

However, he maintained that the terrors peaked when he was attacked with liquid acid during his way home from a mosque near his house which nearly made him blind.

“It’s been 979 days since the attack happened and is yet to be solved,” said Novel Baswedan in a press release on Tuesday, December 17.

Novel Baswedan also focused on the conditions of Indonesia’s corruption eradication, which he said is being weakened under the newly-passed KPK Law revision despite facing strong rejection from the public.
