TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A number of university students members of the Indonesian Students Executive Boards' Alliance (BEM SI) planned to stage a demonstration in front of Merdeka State Palace, Jakarta, today afternoon, December 10.

The mass coordinator Bagas Maropindra said the rally is held to commemorate International Anti-corruption Day and Human Rights Day.

“We bring up three demands, and we still carry on [the theme of] Reform Corrupted and Conclude Reform,” Bagas told Tempo, Tuesday, December 10.

The two themes were the call to a series of street protests which started at the end of September 2019 by university students against several problematic policies.

They urge President Jokowi to issue a regulation in lieu of law or Perpu to annul the Law on Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) No. 19/2019, solve the acid attack case against KPK investigator Novel Baswedan immediately and take firm action against law enforcers committed repressive acts.

Bagas further explained a total of 600 to 700 students from numerous universities will join to take to the streets as a commemoration event of the world’s anti-corruption day at Merdeka Palace.

“The rally will kick off at 01:00 p.m.,” said Bagas who is the BEM head of Jakarta State Polytechnic.
