TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said reviewing a salary system for state apparatus both in the central and regional institutions up to the police and military officers was necessary because the current amount was considered unfair.

“The salary system in Indonesia indeed requires comprehensive review,” said Sri at KPK Merah Putih building, Monday, December 9.

Minister Sri recalled that her side often received complaints from state employees as they were paid differently albeit having the same authority and risks.

“The police and public attorneys complain that their salary is different than KPK’s workers even though they are law enforcers,” she added.

In addition, the former managing director of the World Bank said that several governors and regional heads frequently demanded the government’s plan to improve their allowance and salary.

The minister also cared about regulators getting significant salary differences from organizers of state assets even though both have the same role and work risks.

Therefore, Sri Mulyani planned to cooperate with the Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Ministry (PANRB) to review the salary system on consideration of the country's financial capacity. “So we can pay it sustainably,” she said.

Meanwhile, the graft watchdog KPK chair Agus Rahardjo suggested the government adopts a single salary system for each state agency and institution per the level of risk and authority.
