TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Basuki Tjahja Purnama, or better known as Ahok, chief commissioner of state gas and oil firm Pertamina, talked of his hopes during the 2019 World Anti-Corruption Day.

“I hope state organizers can become models in fighting corruption in Indonesia," said Basuki at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment Affairs building on Monday, December 9.

As one of the top officials in the state-owned company, Basuki claimed he believed that the root of all problems in the country was corruption that must be eradicated. Through transparency and good state administration, corruption can be dealt with, and it will result in well eventually,” he remarked.

As widely reported, the appointment of the former Jakarta governor who preferred to be called BTP as a chief commissioner sparked controversy among the public recently. The corporate worker union FSPPB head Arie Gumilar opined that Basuki rejected the SOE Minister’s decision as Basuki was a figure who often caused a stir.

Meanwhile, SOE Minister Erick Thohir stated the opposite. He praised Ahok as an innovative figure needed for the company.

Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati previously stated the most difficult task of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) was to change the public mindset on preventing corruption, which was dominated by fear and worry into a faith-based society.
