TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN) Thomas Djamaluddin responded to the recent viral video spreading through social media platforms about a mysterious sound believed to be coming from the skies over BTP, Makassar City, South Sulawesi on Wednesday, November 27.

“There are no scientific explanations for sounds from the skies. However, I strongly presume the sound is produced by the surrounding environment,” said Thomas to Tempo in a text message we received on Monday night.

The supposed sounds were documented by an Instagram account under the username @makassar_info on Thursday, November 28. The clip shows people being stunned by a pretty loud sound that is seemingly coming from the sky. This mysterious sound was heard during an azan prayer call.

The sound mimicked two birds communicating with each other but remains unclear about its origins. The video also saw several people looking bewildered by the sound.

“Yes, it is also possible that people are not locals. The source of the sound could be detected nearby the area if it was searched for,” said the LAPAN leader.
