Police Deploy 9,000 Officers to Guard the 212 Reunion Rally

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of Central Jakarta Metro Police Commissioner Harry Kurniawan said that as many as 9,000 personnel were deployed to secure the 212 Reunion rally at the National Monument (Monas), Central Jakarta, on Monday, December 2, 2019.
"Since afternoon we have done security check. Residents who visited Monas were asked to leave the perimeter by the Gambir Metro Sector Police and Operations Section," Harry said in Jakarta, Sunday, December 1, 2019.
He explained that the members in charge of securing the 212 Reunion rally came from a combination of Brimob and Police members from all provinces of Jakarta.
The police officers also did not carry any firearms in guarding the 212 Reunion rally because they considered this event to be a peaceful religious one.
"Police officers will not carry any firearms while guarding the 212 Reunion rally," said Harry.
At each entrance to the Monas area, a security check will be conducted for the 212 Reunion participants, starting from two access entrance; namely near the US Embassy at the southeast and northeast entrance and second at the East Monas entrance.
The committee of the 212 Reunion rally will also checking items brought by the participants when entering the Monas area.
Regarding the diversion of traffic flow, Harry said it would be done situationally. "For a while the rally can still take place as usual. If there are any traffic congestion, we will divert the traffic immediately," he said about guarding the 212 Reunion rally.
