TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Religious Affairs Minister Fachrul Razi said the government planned to establish a special meeting to discuss the planned event of the 212 Reunion on December 2, 2019, in National Monument or Monas, Central Jakarta.
“We will hold a special meeting with Pak Coordinating Minister (for Politics, Legal, Security Affairs Mahfud MD),” said the minister shortly at JS Luwansa Hotel, Jakarta, Wednesday, November 27.
The 212 Reunion is a mass event initiated by the 212 Alumni Brotherhood (PA 212) to commemorate the mass protest in the capital back on December 2, 2016. At that time, hundreds of protesters demanded criminal charges against the city governor at that time, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok, over blasphemy.
This year’s event is reportedly aimed to urge Diah Mutiara Sukmawati Soekarnoputri to be punished for her remarks that comparing the Prophet Muhammad with Indonesia's First President Soekarno.
Public rejection against the event voiced through an online petition on website change.org, which was first created by an account under name '7inta Putih'.
"The 212 Reunion is no longer relevant and at present, it is a political consolidation that is laden with intrigue, hate speeches and takes up the public space for hours," as noted in the petition.
