TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Mandiri corporate secretary Rohan Nafas said Jakarta was no longer fit to host an international-scale marathon run. He added that the city’s roads were not sterile enough to be transformed into a marathon track.

“It’s never sterile and it cannot be used to host an international run,” said Rohan at the State-owned Enterprise Ministry in Central Jakarta on Friday, November 29.

As a corporation, state-owned Bank Mandiri has constantly sponsored marathon runs for 10 years. In its first 8 years, the bank had backed the Jakarta Marathon.

However, in the last two years the bank has focused more on locations for marathons outside of Jakarta that boast equal added values such as Prambanan, Bali, Mandalika, and Banyuwangi.

“We have moved [the marathons] out of Jakarta since 2 years ago,” said Rohan.

Bank Mandiri is set to hold a marathon festival in Nusa Dua, Bali, on December 15, 2019, in tandem with the Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) and Bali’s Jasa Marga.
