The vet at the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programme (SOCP), Meuthya Sr, said on Thursday, Nov. 28, that 24 projectiles were found in the body of the 25-year-old ape, named Paguh. There were 16 bullets in its head, four in the hands and feet, three in its hip, and one in the belly.

"We'll be giving Paguh an intensified treatment until he gets very well," she said.

"The officer, during the patrol, found a wounded orangutan and immediately coordinated with the Orangutan Information Centre (OIC) for a check," he said.

Agus said the shooting incident against the endangered species was not the first time. The BKSDA is partnering with the police to handle the case that is still in the investigation process.
