TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The House of Representatives’ (DPR) Commission II plans to question the government on its reasons for issuing the Government’s Decree No.77/2019 in preventing terrorism and protection for its investigators, prosecutors, judges, and prison employees.

“The point is that we want every regulation to be born as something soothing and maintaining a safe situation and not stirring controversies in society,” said Commission II speaker Ahmad Doli Kurnia at the parliamentary headquarters on Monday.

Commission II plans to summon the Home Affairs Ministry and the Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Ministry (Kemenpan RB) regarding the issuance of the decree.

“As for the Home Affairs Minister, we have scheduled a meeting for November 28,” said Ahmad Doli Kurnia.

Commission members will look into some questionable elements contained in the decree, such as: “Low-income groups have more potential to be affected radicalism.”

The DPR also questioned the decree’s urgency and warned that the decree did not have to be immediately followed by repressive and over-the-top actions by law enforcers.
