TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former Jakarta governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama has officially been named as the commissioner of state-owned energy company PT Pertamina, where he will not play a role in the company's policy-making but rather monitor its board of directors’ performance.
State-owned Enterprises (SOE) Minister’s special staffer Arya Sinulingga revealed why Ahok was tapped for the position instead of Pertamina’s board member, commissioner, or president director.
“Because we also need a board of directors who can fathom businesses and operations in general and in the field of oil and gas,” said Arya following the firm’s annual shareholder meeting on Monday, November 25.
He asserted that Ahok’s role was necessary to boost the performance of the energy firm in terms of keeping a close watch on Pertamina’s board of directors’ work. Ahok’s appointment was initially announced by SOE Minister Erick Thohir on Saturday, November 23.
