TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bali Deputy Governor Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardhana Sukawati asked for tourists visiting Bali to upload pictures or videos that are “visually positive.” This follows Fodor’s No List 2020 that included Bali as one of the tourist spots to avoid due to several social and environmental issues.
“Bali’s positive image is like a clean beach, natural environment, hotel parks that are managed well,” said the Bali Deputy often called Cok Ace on Thursday, November 21.
Cok Ace did not stop there and continued to urge tourists to expose the region’s local people who are friendly.
“The news report from a foreign media placed Bali in the list of destinations not to visit, this will surely bring a less than the great effect for Bali’s tourism image,” said Cok, who is also the chairman of Bali’s Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI).
This call for a better image is mentioned in an official circular by the region’s tourism agency No.556/4386/II/.
Previously, travel media Fodor’s Travel had included Bali in its list of destinations to avoid in 2020. The media argues that Bali is currently facing a number of issues due to its overtourism such as its garbage emergency, clean water scarcity, and impolite tourists.
