TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister of Maritime and Investments Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan stated that Japan has shown interest to invest and be involved in one of Indonesia’s major projects in the establishment of the new capital city in East Kalimantan.
“They would like to be involved in the new capital city as they have experience in terms of smart city concept,” said Luhut after welcoming the visit of Japan’s Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda at the Maritime Affairs and Investments Coordinating Ministry headquarters on Tuesday.
He claims that Japan’s interest adds to a lengthy list of nations that has declared significant enthusiasm to be involved. Other than Japan, Abu Dhabi has shown interest; “I was personally surprised that many want to be involved in this project.”
However, Minister Luhut Pandjaitan did not reveal Japan’s total value of the investment but maintains that it would fulfill half of the budget needs of Rp460 trillion.
“Half [of the budget] can give room to the private sector to enter,” said Luhut Pandjaitan.
