BNPB Reports Damages Following North Maluku Earthquake

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Mitigation Agency (BNPB) reported that the 7.1 Richter Scale earthquake that struck North Maluku on Thursday, November 14, 2019, injured two people and destroyed 19 infrastructures.

"There were two casualties, mild injuries due to falling brick and no one has been evacuated from their homes. As for infrastructure damages, there are reportedly 19 buildings suffering from mild damages and three churches and one school," said BNPB head of public communication Agus Wibowo on Friday, November 15, 2019.

The government and the regional mitigation agency continue to map out the effects of the earthquake that hit the region at 11:17 PM Indonesia Western Time (WIB), 134 kilometers northwest of Jailolo with a hypocenter of 73 kilometers.

Following the earthquake, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued a tsunami early warning but was later cancelled it at 01:45 AM WIB on Friday, November 15, 2019. The agency also reported aftershocks up to 10:00 AM on Friday, November 15, 2019, in the region.
