TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Mataram City regional government in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) announced that it plans to implement a curfew for the operations of internet cafes, or locally known as "warnet". They say that it is to better monitor the merits of this business sector.

“This curfew will be one of our strict acts to control the existence of internet cafe businesses that tend to operate until late at night,” said Mataram City’s Deputy H Mohan Roliskana on Tuesday, Nov. 12.

Mohan’s statement follows the drug operation by NTB’s National Narcotics Agency (BNN) that nabbed more than one hundred people in the midst of playing online games across a number of internet cafes. They also found a primary school student playing online games until midnight.

The operation also revealed 14 of those nabbed were tested positive for narcotic consumption.

“Operational hours for internet cafes will only be tolerated up to 23:00 Central Indonesia Time (WITA), exceeding that will be dangerous,” said Mohan who also expressed fear that late-night internet cafe users would misuse their time to access porn sites.
