Pertamina Earmarks US$2.68bn for Geothermal Investment

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Pertamina's upstream director Dharmawan H Samsu said Indonesia has 40 percent of the world's geothermal potential, which is roughly 29,000 MW. Unfortunately, the state has only tapped about six percent of that amount.
To capture the potential, Pertamia sets a geothermal target for its long term plan from 2021 to 2026. Through subsidiary Pertamina Geothermal Energi (PGE), the state energy company will boost its geothermal business, preparing US$2.68 billion investment to develop existing work areas.
PGE will also work on two new work areas. This will increase the company's geothermal power plants' capacity by almost two times to 1,112 MW.
Once in full operation, PGE is confident they can increase power backup to 2,175 MW and electricity production to 7,455 GWh.
“We will keep increasing production and pushing to utilize Indonesia's abundant geothermal potentials to achieve energy security in the future," Dharmawan said in Jakarta, November 12.
