4.1M Earthquake Strikes West Java's Pangandaran

TEMPO.CO , Bandung - A tectonic earthquake measuring at 4.1 magnitudes on the Richter scale jolted Pangandaran Regency, West Java Province, today, October 24. Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) declared that the quake occurred at 04:21 Western Indonesian Time (WIB) had no potential to trigger a tsunami.
The quake was detected at sea, 8.13 degrees south latitude and 108.71 east longitude, or 53 kilometers southeast Pangandaran at a depth of 52 kilometers.
The shallow quake was activated by the subduction activity of the Indo-Australian plate under the Eurasian plates, said the agency's head of Tasikmalaya office Hendro Nugroho in a written statement today.
According to Hendro, the tremor was felt up to Tasikmalaya at a level II of the MMI Scale.
BMKG claimed to have not received a report on damaged buildings or casualties following the quake.
