TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The team of the second phase of Greater Jakarta Urban Transportation Policy Integration or JUTPI 2 estimated that the economic loss caused by traffic jams in Greater Jakarta areas or Jabodetabek reached Rp100 trillion throughout 2018.

The team head Junkichi Kano outlined Rp40 trillion of losses for the operational cost of vehicles and Rp60 trillion of losses for the travel time.

“This is a huge economic impact from traffic congestion,” said Kano during a press conference at The Westin Hotel, Kuningan, South Jakarta, Thursday, October 24.

The figure was obtained from a survey by JUTPI 2 in Jabodetabek last year. The Rp100 trillion in losses was equal to Rp3 million losses per person in a year. The data was identical to the survey result by the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) in the same year.

According to Kano, the figure was four percent of Jakarta Greater’s gross domestic product, and 1.5 percent of the regional GDP could construct MRT railway Corridor 1, that the construction's first phase worth Rp16 trillion, and the second phase worth Rp22.5 trillion.

Today, October 24, JUTPI 2 held a meeting with several stakeholders regarding the development of the public transportation system in Jabodetabek, including Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Jabodetabek Transportation Management Body (BPTJ), Jakarta administration, Banten administration, and West Java administration.

Deputy assistant of Multi-modal Transportation System at Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Tulus Hutagulung, said that the meeting was part of the partnership of the government and JUTPI in a bid to enhance the capacity of human resources in developing public transportation system in Indonesia.
