TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - After Wednesday’s “Indonesia Maju” Cabinet announcement, member of the Jakarta City Council (DPRD) from the Gerindra faction, Syarif, urged the Jakarta Administration to quickly synergize with the Transportation Ministry to discuss the law on electric vehicles or EV.
“Electric vehicles are one of the solutions to tackle pollution in Jakarta. We are under a pollution emergency. [City administrators and the Central Government ] must sit together to discuss the matter,” said Syarif on Wednesday, October 23.
Syarif argues that the problem of pollution and poor air quality is not only posing problems for the city’s administrators, but also for the Central Government.
This follows Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan’s plan upon hosting a Formula E race in the capital city next year. Anies claims it is a symbol to establish the city’s willingness and actions to change into a city free of emissions.
