TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Three environmental activists for Greenpeace Indonesia, who installed giant banners at Pancoran’s Dirgantara Monument in South Jakarta, was told to get down from the 27-meter-high statue by firefighters at the scene.

Police, with the assistance of Jakarta firefighters, mobilized the city’s Bronto Skylift F90 HLA to reach the activists. They were then taken into police vehicles as soon as they touched the ground. The three activists were then taken to the Tebet Police Sector in South Jakarta for further processes.

“We are just questioning them,” said Tebet Sector’s Police Deputy Adj. Comm. Rusdi Dalby today.

According to Dalby, the activity conducted by the activists has hampered public order as their act eventually caused a traffic jam at the packed street beneath the statue.

Police are still investigating whether there are any criminal laws against their acts. “Whether there are or not, we will follow it up,” said the police.

Greenpeace Indonesia activists installed large banners on the monument that called people to take action in saving the environment. The banners read; “'Orang Baik Pilih Energi Baik” which means ‘good people prefer good energy’; and “Lawan Perusak Hutan” which means ‘fight those who destroy forests.’
