TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Parameter Politik Indonesia Executive Director Adi Prayitno deemed President Jokowi’s Cabinet, which has involved political rival Prabowo Subianto, as a Cabinet that was forced into marriage.
“The elements of forced marriage is indicated by Jokowi’s internal coalition that seems to have forms of resistance,” said Adi to Tempo on Monday, October 21.
His comment follows the arrival of Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace on Monday upon an invite by President Jokowi. After a meeting in the afternoon, Prabowo came back out to meet journalists and announced that his political party has joined the government.
Prabowo also said that he was asked by the president to assist his Cabinet in the field of defense.
Based on several statements, Adi argues that Nasdem Party, Golkar Party, and the National Awakening Party (PKB) are actually against Prabowo and Gerindra Party joining the government’s coalition party circle.
He argued that the political situation surrounding Jokowi and Prabowo reflects Indonesia’s political anomaly that suddenly annuls the conflicts built along with the 2019 presidential election.
He said that political elites have sacrificed the grassroots movements that have yet declared a truce between each other. He also claimed that one of his polls showed that the majority of supporters backing Jokowi and Prabowo disagree with the two reuniting in a coalition.
“This is a Cabinet based on elite’s oligarch that does not reflect the peoples’ aspirations,” Adi asserted.
